Removing your unwanted tattoo
Body Details laser tattoo removal procedure involves a series of treatments in which the laser breaks the tattoo into smaller and smaller pieces allowing your bodies’ immune system to remove it naturally. When the series of treatments are completed the skin will look as if the tattoo had never even been there.
How does it work?
Without laser tattoo removal your body will naturally break down your tattoo over time, (this is why old tattoos fade), and given enough time your body would completely remove the tattoo on its own. Body Details laser tattoo removal procedure simply accelerates this natural process by shattering the ink into smaller and smaller pieces making it easier for the body immune system to get rid of the ink. Gradually, your body absorbs it and filters it out naturally.
Is Laser Tattoo Removal painful?
Everyone`s opinion of pain is different and many of our patients say it feels the same as when they had the tattoo put on. The iscomfort is generally minimal and prior to treatment we will generally numb the area with an ice pack and Lidocaine. Upon completion of your treatment you can go about your normal day doing virtually all of your regular activities. We do ask that you protect and care for the treatment area as you would a cut or a blister until it has fully healed. The better care you take of yourself, the better results we can ensure you receive.
What Laser Do We Use?
Our office in Lexington Kentucky uses PicoSure laser which is the only laser with 532nm, 755nm and 1064nm wavelengths, making it the only laser that could remove almost all tattoo ink colors. It effectively targets tattoo ink across all skin types, without harming the surrounding skin. During treatment with the PicoSure, ultra-short pulses target tattoo ink particles with PressureWaveTM technology. The pressure is so powerful that it shatters the tattoo ink into tiny dust light particles. The particles are then eaten by scavengers cells in the skin known as macrophages, and naturally eliminated from the body. The process can take up to 6 months after a single treatment. The PicoSure laser was approved by the FDA in 2013 for the removal of tattoos. Manufactured and developed by Cynosure based in Massachusetts, United States, it was the first Picosecond laser to be approved for this purpose. It was also the world’s first picosecond laser, opening doors which allowed doctors to now treat pigmentary conditions and provide overall skin rejuvenation more effectively than before.
How many treatments will be required?
The number of laser treatment sessions needed to remove a tattoo depends on many factors. On average, it mostly takes 5 to 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, to successfully remove a tattoo. The long treatment interval is needed to allow your skin to rest and for the shattered ink particles to be completely metabolized.
What can you expect after each treatment?
Generally there will be some fading of darker colors/lightening of lighter colors after each successive treatment however it is not uncommon to see no visible change after the first treatment and in some cases for the tattoo to appear darker. Remember that the lasers treat the deepest ink first so the fading occurs gradually. Your individual immune system will filter out the ink at a unique rate.
General guidelines during treatment

- Apply ice pack as often as reasonably possible.
- Keep treated area protected and elevated when possible.
After first day and until treatment area is visibly healed:
- Use a moisturizing cream such as aloe or hydrocortisone.
- Scarring is most often a result of poor wound maintenance which can also lead to infection. DO NOT PICK SCABS or POP BLISTERS
- Pass up swimming, as it will adversely affect the healing process.
